Ambubachi Mela: A Celebration of Shakti’s Power

Tucked away in the mystical Nilachal Hills of Assam stands the ancient Kamakhya Temple, one of the Shakti Peethas—sacred sites where the body parts of Goddess Sati are believed to have fallen. Legend says that Maa Sati’s womb and yoni fell at this spot, making Kamakhya the epicentre of feminine energy, fertility, and creation.

Kamakhya is not just a Goddess; she is the primordial creative force, the raw, untamed Shakti who governs birth, transformation, sexuality, and spiritual power. She is worshipped in her formless aspect through the sacred yoni-shaped stone that remains naturally moist with underground water—symbolising eternal creation.

Ambubachi Mela: The Earth Bleeds, the Goddess Rests

Every year, during the monsoon (mid-June), the land of Kamakhya enters a deep state of stillness during the Ambubachi Mela, which marks the annual menstruation of the Goddess. It is said that the Earth herself undergoes her cycle of regeneration during these days. This powerful event marks the annual menstruation cycle of Devi Kamakhya, the embodiment of Shakti and the primal creative force of the universe.

the temple remains closed as the Goddess is believed to rest, and on the fourth day, grand rituals, blessings, and spiritual celebrations resume—ushering in renewal, transformation, and grace for devotees across the world. During this time:

  • No worship or farming is done

  • Sadhaks and tantriks observe deep silence, tapasya, or mantra chanting

  • The energy of the Divine Feminine is inward and intense

Pilgrims, sadhaks, tantriks, and spiritual seekers gather in thousands to receive her blessings during this potent time when the veil between the physical and the mystical grows thinner.

On the fourth day, the Goddess is bathed, the temple doors reopen, and blessings flow in abundance. This is when spiritual seekers gather to receive her grace and begin new sadhanas, initiations, and healing work.

Why You Should Do Maa Kamakhya Mantra Sadhana During Ambubachi

This is one of the most potent times of the year to begin or deepen your connection with the Divine Feminine through Maa Kamakhya Mantra Sadhana and energy healing practices.

When you do sadhana during Ambubachi:

  • You align with cosmic rhythms of creation and rest

  • You receive deep womb and karmic healing

  • You tap into ancestral feminine wisdom and spiritual power

  • Your intentions are magnified, and siddhis (spiritual attainments) can unfold

Why It Matters

  • Divine Feminine Power: The festival celebrates the creative and regenerative energy of the goddess, affirming menstruation as sacred, not taboo.

  • Cosmic Alignment: Coinciding with the monsoon’s fertility, the annual ritual syncs human and Earth cycles, inviting devotees to align with nature’s rhythm.

  • Energetic Ascendancy: Ambubachi is considered the most auspicious time for mantra sadhana, tantra practice, and energy healing, as the veil between worlds thins.

If You Practice Sadhana Now…

  • Potentiated Mantra Work: Your Kamakhya mantra sadhana resonates with the heightened divine Shakti.

  • Womb & Karmic Healing: Now is the best time for ancestral healing, especially relating to feminine lines and cycles.

  • Spiritual Rebirth: Energy channels open for psychic awakening, breakthrough wisdom, and transformational siddhis.
